Thanksgiving Day Closing Jitney Results

The Thanksgiving Day Jitney bowled on Monday, October 10 closed out the 2011 season. The weather was absolutely amazing, more like a hot day in July instead of October. Two game winners were Art Lowe with 24 points, Gord McDonald (23), Sam Macaluso (21), Ted Lamb (21), Joe Godwin (20), Lucy Hooper(20) and Bill Taylor (19). One game winners were Jean McDonald with 20 points, Jim Munro (18) and Eleanor Thomson (17).

Thanks to all who made this a great day including Jim Thomson for setting up the greens, Eleanor Thomson and Sam Macaluso for looking after the draw, and Mary Rooney and Carol Rees for the very enjoyable refreshments.

Brantwood Farms Open Singles Tournament Results

The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club hosted the Brantwood Farms Soup & Sandwich Open Singles Tournament on Saturday, September 24; the club's last open tournament of the season. The fantastic weather was only surpassed by the delicious lunch.

Twenty two bowlers participated in this tournament, the results follow. Kody Olthof, Simcoe finished in first place with three game wins (59+5), John Rattray, Ancaster in second (48), James Covell, London in third (47). Two game winners were Frank Pring, Caledonia (4th place, 46) and Kevin Jones, London (5th, 45+1). One game high winner was Sam Macalusco, Dufferin with 39+2. The winner was of the 50/50 was Maureen Francella, Hagersville LBC.

Don & Betty Snider Ladies & Mixed Pairs Tournament Results

The competition for the Don & Betty Snider Women's and Mixed Pairs Tournament on Sunday, September 18 saw 20 teams putting forth a a great effort to be the top team at the end of the three ends. Three game winners were Joe Godwin and Lisa Marie Hooper (38+6 points). Two game winners were Gord and Jean McDonald (34+5), Betty Dawes and Jim Thomson (26). Jack Taylor and Francine Lemay Beal had a one game high of 24 points. Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to all the members who entered a team.

Tranquility Place Retirement Home & Apartments Women's & Mixed Pairs Tournament Results

The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club hosted the Tranquility Place Retirement Home & Apartments Women's and Mixed Pairs Tournament on Tuesday September 13. Three game winners were Yvette Vanderpost and Matt Kolnec, Simcoe with 48+10 points. Two game winners were Frank Pring and Tilly Mannen, Caledonia with 48+1 points, Raj and Jane Rajalingham, Stayner with 41 points, Jack Surerus and Candace Teetzel, Norwich with 39+2 points. One game high winners were Ed and Ellen Edwards, Heritage Greens (Kitchener) with 34+2 points.

His work was praised by Raj Rajalingham from Barrie, who said that the greens here in Brantford were outstanding. Ingham Monuments Women's & Mixed Pairs Tournament Results

The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club hosted the Ingham Monuments Women's Pairs and Mixed Pairs Tournament on Labour Day, September 5 under very cool (cold) overcast but dry conditions. Joe Godwin and Lisa Marie Hooper from the Dufferin Club finished in first place with 3 wins (45+3), Lock and Dorothy Morgan, Ancaster in second with 3 wins (42), Frank Pring and Elaine Semple, Caledonia in third with 3 wins (42). Two game winners were Jack Surerus and Candace Teetzel, Norwich (42) and Bill Taylor and Olive Martin, Dufferin Club (39+3). Lynda Sandilands and Joan Lister, Dundas had a one game high of 36 points.

Eagle Place Senior Centre Women's & Mixed Pairs Tournament Results

The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club hosted the Eagle Place Senior Centre Women's and Mixed Pairs Tournament on Wednesday, August 24. Teams entered from Burlington, Elmira, Simcoe (2), Thistledown (London), Dufferin (Brantford) and Roselawn (Hamilton). Charlie Lyle and Marion Freeborn, Burlington captured first place with 52 points (3 game wins). Two game winners were Marie Sutton and Dave Ancill, Dufferin (40+2 points), Tony Van Den Hurk and Joyce Donaldson, Simcoe (39+4 points), and Joe Godwin and Lisa Marie Hooper, Dufferin (35 points). One game high winners were Olive Martin and Bill Taylor, Dufferin (Brantford) with 37 points.

Nancy Tomkins Ladies Luncheon Results

Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club hosted a Women's Triples Tournament and Luncheon, Tuesday, August 16 sponsored by Nancy Tomkins Implant & Denture Clinic. Ten teams were entered from Kitchener, Simcoe, Hagersville, St. George, Woodstock, London and Brantford and the tournamnet was played under beautiful blue skies and hot temperatures.

Congratulations to Jean Brighton, Beverly Houston & Marie Carey from Heritage Greens (Kitchener) who captured first place with 3 wins (45+5 points). Nora Mulvihill, Sandy Ronson & Marquerite Leblanc from Fairmont (London) finished in second (2 wins, 42); Shirley Hague, Pearl Gable & Brenda Rowland from Woodstock in third (2 wins, 36); and Edith Cavin, Kay Cowenbury & Marilyn Robillard, from Norwich in fourth (2 wins, 36). One game high winners were Marie Sutton, Yvette Vanderpost & Grace Mills from Dufferin (Brantford) with 32 points.

A Jitney was held at the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club on Sunday, August 14. Two game winners were Lisa Marie Hooper (22), Bobby Beazly (22) and Bill Taylor (18). One game winners were Dave Ancill (20), Betty Gragg (16) and Lucy Hooper-Schopf (16). Thanks to Helen Knill and Nellie Flaherty for setting the draw table and Liz Vegso and Alma Kisser for refreshments.

Galerie Lumiere and McCleister Funeral Home Women's/Mixed Triples Tournament Results

The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club hosted a Women's and Mixed Triples Tournament sponsored by Galerie Lumiere and McCleister Funeral Home Tuesday, August 2.

Tony VanDenHurk, Matt Kolnec & Shirley Hague from Simcoe finished in first place with 3 wins (37). Joe Godwin, Lisa Marie Hooper & Charlie Nadjiwan from Dufferin (Brantford) finished in second with 2 wins (30) and Jack Surerus, Donna McLellan & Joy White of Norwich finished in third with 2 wins (28). One game high winners were Tony Hawken, Diana May & Ruby Withington from Aylmer (25). First prize was three large Group of 7 prints while second prize was three small James Lumbers prints.

A Jitney was held at the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club on Sunday, July 24. Two-game winners were Jim Thomson (17), Bobby Beasley (16), Wilma Roblin (16) and Jack Taylor (15). One-game winners were Joe Godwin (16) and Lucy Hooper Schopf (15).

Tradewind Heating & Air Conditioning Women's & Mixed Pairs Results

On Tuesday, July 19 the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club hosted 10 teams for women's and mixed pairs sponsored by Tradewind Heating & Air Conditioning. Due to the extreme heat and humidity only three ten end games were played. A minute of silence was held in memory of Toni Zuidema and Jeffrey Hewson, Marie Sutton's son. Our thoughts and prayers go to the Zuidema family and the Sutton-Hewson families.

Joan Way and Carol Risadore from the Burlington Lawn Bowling Club finished in first place with 3 wins (41+5). Shirley Hague and Deanna Palmer, Woodstock finished in second with 2 wins (34+3); Laura Ritchie and Tilly Mannen, St. George in third with 2 wins (34+3) and Tony Van Den Hurk and Mary Faludi, Simcoe in fourth with 2 wins (33+2). One game high winners were Yvette Vanderpost and Matt Kolnec from Simcoe (27).

Club Singles Tournament Results

The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club held their Singles Club Championships during the evening of Thursday, July 14. A total of 20 bowlers played three 10 end games with the following results. The Senior Women's Singles Champion was Eleanor Thomson with 3 wins (33), while Joe Godwin won the Senior Men's title with 3 wins (35). Lisa Hooper won the Novice Women's title with 3 wins (37) and Dave Ancill won the Novice Men's title with 3 wins (37). Thanks to draw master, Wilma Roblin.

Sunday Jitney Results

On a hot humid 30 degree day, the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club bowled three eight end games (three trebles and one pairs). Two game winners were Jean McDonald (25), Alma Kisser (24), Jack Taylor (23), Joe Martin (22), Sam Macaluso (21), Christine Kramer (20) and Joe Godwin (17). One game winners were Bobby Beazley (19) and Art Lowe (19). Thanks to draw masters Francine LeMay Beal and Jack Taylor and thanks to Francine for organizing the refreshments.

B.Y.O. Breweries Open Pairs Results

The B.Y.O. Breweries Open Pairs Tournament was bowled on Friday, July 8 with 15 teams entered coming from Toronto, Simcoe, Ingersoll, Burlington, St. George, Caledonia, St. Marys, Thamesford and Brantford.

Margaret Beacroft and Charlie Lyle from the Burlington Lawn Bowling Club finished in first with 3 wins (50+3). Ron Gregory and Tony Webb, Thamesford finished in second with 3 wins (46+3), Tony Van Den Hurk and Mary Faludi, Simcoe in third with 2 wins (45+3) and Larry McClean and Jurgen Fessler, St. Marys in fourth with 2 wins (42). One game high winners were Ed Hunter and Tilly Mannen, St. George with a total of 35.

Dufferin Club Awarded BCF Grant

The Brantford Community Foundation, which assists with funding to improve the well-being of the community and its residents by providing financial assistance to various non-profit community organizations, approved the Dufferin Club's 2011 grant application to the amount of $3,058.05. The funds will be used to purchase tennis and lawn bowling equipment to compliment and expand our existing junior program for children 5 to 15 years of age. The project ties in with the club's overall aim of promoting an active and healthy lifestyle among people of all ages. Children within the community will be able to participate in a new sport and engage in social interaction, thus improving their physical and mental well-being and improving their overall quality of life.

This is not the first year the Brantford Community Foundation has approved grant applications from the club. The Dufferin Tennis Club was successful in acquiring funds for court repairs in 2008 and 2009 for $3,146.02. and $1,569.24, respectively. In 2010, the Dufferin Club received $2,100 to help with the Centennial Celebrations. Thanks to Andrea Hebb and Ron van Pampus for all their hard work in completing and submitting the applications each year.

Brant Pain Relief Women's & Mixed Pairs Results

The Brant Pain Relief Clinic Women's and Mixed Pairs Tournament was bowled Tuesday, May 31 under very hot and humid conditions. Eighteen teams from Burlington, Norwich, Woodstock, Simcoe, Caledonia, London, St. George and Brantford (3 teams) were entered into the draw. Bowlers were called off the greens in the third game after eight ends due to the oppressive heat.

Bruce and Linda Smith, Burlington finished in top spot with 3 wins (44+1). Wes and Shirley Hague, Woodstock finished in second with 3 wins (38); John and Doris Moore, Burlington in third with 2 wins (38); Nev Williams and Muriel LaPlante, Simcoe in fourth with 2 wins (36); Ron and Ruby Dufeu, Burlington in fifth with 2 wins (36) and Frank Pring and Joan Way, Caledonia in sixth with 1 win (32+1).

Jitney Results - Sunday, May 29

A two-game jitney was bowled Sunday, May 29 at the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club. Results were tallied by draw masters Gord and Jean McDonald. Two-game winners were Charlie Nadjiwon (26), Lisa Marie Hooper (23), Francine Lemay Beal (20), Marie Sutton (16), Christine Kramer (16) and Dave Ancill (11). One-game winner was Joe Godwin (20). Thanks to Eleanor Thomson for providing refreshments.

Opening Day Spyder & Jitney

The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club officially opened for the season - the club's 101 opening day - on Victoria Day, Monday, May 23. President, Lisa Marie Hooper began the days events by singing our National Anthem and welcomed local dignitaries to the opening:Teresa Percival representing MP Phil McColeman, MPP Dave Levac, Mayor Chris Friel and his wife Wendy Friel.

Everyone had a lot of fun during the Spyder Bowl which was won by Betty Dawes. Wendy Friel used her Grandmother's bowl for the Spyder. Unfortunately, the dignitaries could not stay for the eight end game, but the remaining 34 bowlers had a fun game.

Our Spring Meeting followed the Spyder. President Lisa Marie presided over the meeting which was then followed by a Pot Luck Supper. Many thanks to Eleanor and Jim Thomson for setting up the tables and organizing the food. Eleanor and her team of helpers did a great job of putting the food out and cleaning up afterwards. Thanks to all those who attended and made this a very successful day.

Open House - Saturday, April 30

The 2011 season kicks off with a joint Tennis and Lawn Bowling Open House on Saturday, April 30 from 10 am to 3 pm. Information regarding memberships and club activities will be provided and membership and junior tennis camp registrations will be accepted.

Meet our new court staff and Executive members. Non-members are welcome to attend and can play free the entire day. Light refreshments will also available.
